HAPPY THANKSGIVING (CANADA)

Another Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone.  I thought that this would be a great time to list everything that I am thankful for.  Hopefully it will inspire my Canadian friends to think about the things that are important to them.  The United States will not be celebrating until November 27 – I hope that this blog post inspires all the U.S. readers to think about the things they will be most thankful for.  Here are mine:

A GESTURE THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES.

What is there to say about Jane Goodall – to me she is many things;  activist, role-model, modern-day Saint, animal lover, kind, loving, generous and caring.  Jane has devoted much of her life to rescue and study the behaviour of chimpanzees.  54 years ago – at the age of 26, Jane travelled to Lake Tanganyika in East Africa to study the area’s chimpanzee population and today, she continues her studies and her legacy to rescue chimpanzees continues.

This video speaks volumes and is confirmation that all the work she has done and continues to do is appreciated by the chimpanzees she has studied and saved.  What a gift of gratitude – to have your life’s work recognized by the same animals you have helped.

You can help create positive change by various different methods – but why not try something new.  Feel good about helping achieve Jane’s goals in making a positive difference for many chimpanzees who might otherwise have had a different fate:

UTOPIA NOW!!!!

Can humanity ever come to a consensus to live in a world where everyone works together for the greater good of the planet, environment, and humanity’s survival?  Do we really have to rely on the methods of those who only want to benefit themselves?  Is Utopia a reality?  Absolutely.  Here are 2 videos that will explain how this pre-conceived notion can be reality.

THE VENUS PROJECT

Jacque Fresco thought of this project as a way to look at the future with a different approach as to how we live life today.  Jacque believes that we can live in a future where war, poverty, hunger and debt would be things of the past as indicated on The Venus Project’s official website.  Their directive states, in the section ‘What is The Venus Project’ “The Venus Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization”

BASIC INCOME EUROPE

Basic Income Europe has a great concept in removing financial inequality – Here is their idea as per their website:

WHAT IS BASIC INCOME?
The emancipatory Unconditional Basic Income is defined by the following four criteria:
universal, individual, unconditional, high enough to ensure an existence in dignity and participation in society.
An Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) or Citizen’s Income is a guaranteed income, given to all in addition to any other income they might receive. By advancing equality and economic participation while enabling simpler welfare systems, UBI leads to a fairer and more efficient society.

Could these two very progressive ideas become reality – YES, if more people become involved.  If we don’t try innovative ideas such as these could never happen.  People around the world are tired, they hunger for positive change but governments and those who have power and money don’t want this positive change to come because it will tip the balance of power.  So many of us are tired of the old ideas that continue to create financial inequality, environmental catastrophe’s, war, starvation, poverty and crime.  It’s time for new ideas – ideas that will benefit the poor, the hungry, the disenfranchised, the planet and humanity.  It’s time for a PEACEFUL REVOLUTION.  It’s time for Utopia.

IF I WERE A POLITICIAN…..

What reputation do our politicians have?  I can only speak of Canada and the United States because it is the policies of these countries that I hear most about.  Politicians in our continent are engaged in scandals that would make a celebrity blush.  There are stories of greed, sex scandals, politicians getting kickbacks from big corporation, the lack of accountability, over-spending, war and not working for the individuals who hired them.  I know what I elected my politicians for, and it wasn’t to bail out banks, allow oil companies to drill the earth dry, allow developers to destroy the earth’s natural resources at an alarming rate and to keep people oppressed, depressed and paranoid.

So – what would I do as a policy maker?  Great question with a simple answer.

1.  I would focus on legislation that would help those who are suffering because of out-dated policies that just do not work.  I would work very hard to garner the publics trust by REALLY listening to their needs.  I know that people who have money don’t need as much help as those that do – it’s really simple and that easy.

2.  You want jobs – I would  give incentives to companies that find sustainable alternatives to those things that contribute to climate change.  I would demand solar, wind and other sustainable ways to find climate change.  I demand that car companies to stop making automobiles that leave a carbon footprint and use ‘dirty oil’ and, I would ask them to make them affordable.

3.  Religion and politics don’t mix.  I would ensure that my policies were based on the greater good of the people and not because of certain religious beliefs.  God doesn’t run a country – the people do.  If you want to pray, you can pray at your church, synagogue, mosque and house.  There is no place for religion in politics.

4.  Everyone receives that same health care……people shouldn’t be dying because they can’t afford medicine that can save their lives.  I would also ask doctors to promote preventative care – such as proper diet, nutrition, exercise and natural ways to cure ailments before they prescribe pharmaceuticals.

5.  I would ensure that BIG OIL stop drilling immediately.  This will make people realize that THERE ARE other ways to power the provide us with power that do not have such a negative impact on our earth.

6.  I would protect existing forests, lakes, oceans and rivers.

7.  I would ban guns – unless you were in the military, you would not own or have a gun.  This would include police.

8.  No hunting – Why do we have so many animals on the endangered species list?  We lack respect for our environment, the planet and the animals that were here long before us.  We are crowding into their space and they become displaced.

9.  Everyone would have the same opportunity in terms of education.  It would be affordable and everyone would be taught the same.  It would be mandatory to include meditation, proper nutrition and essential life skills (what is a mortgage, the proper use of credit cards, how to invest, how to save money) as part of the curriculum.

10.  I would ensure that no-one travels to places that are advertised in travel companies as “10 Places to see before they disappear” – they include:  Glacier National Park, Galapagos Islands, The Great Barrier Reef, The Dead Sea, The Alps, Madagascar, The Congo Basin.  The only way you would be able to travel to these places is to help in their sustainability.  Here is a link as to why I would ban travel to these places:  http://dailyinfographic.com/10-places-to-see-before-theyre-gone-infographic

11.  I would promote a culture that understands the implications of over-population.  I would encourage the use of contraceptives and give incentives to parents who adopt children rather than having them.

12.  Committing a crime against an animal would have the same implications as if you were committing the same crime on a human.  A life is a life.

13.  The debate on abortion would end.  Politics has no business on any women’s right to choose what she does to her body.

14.  I would allow and give incentives to developers who focus on building sustainable communities – communes, organic gardens, community living, local farming, etc.

15.  Ban the use of pesticides and genetically modified foods (unless the GMO’s have had long-term and positive studies).

If other politicians decide they can’t handle these policies that all people would benefit from – I would ask them to leave my government.  We are living in a moment of history were debates and talk must stop and we must take action.  It is time to seriously look at new ideas and politicians must stop creating legislation based on what and how they can benefit from.  It is time that the people hold their politicians accountable for their actions – this has worked in other countries, we must make it work here.  I am confident that positive change will come – especially if our leaders are thinking for the greater good of the planet and its inhabitants and not the “almighty dollar”.

Together we can make the world a more positive one!

WHAT OF THE FUTURE?

In my past, I was taught to always look to the future – get an education, save money and plan for your future and your children’s future.  Currently – I don’t particularly feel that what I was taught is necessarily the way.  I am an avid believer that we must live for the moment.   We can’t change the past, but we can certainly learn from it to ensure that the future for the planet and humanity is bright and prosperous.  So, what of the future?

I would like to think that I am somewhat optimistic and generally tend to want positive resolutions to all types of situations but at the rate we are depleting our earth’s resources – I must really look hard at humanity and within myself to find my optimism.  What is happening around the world to make me feel this way?  Many things.  We live in a ruthless world and in a society were the rich are becoming even richer on the backs of the middle class and poor.  We believe in democracy that really doesn’t even exist – our politicians are driven by money, our society is driven by money therefore what benefit do politicians have in fighting for social issues if there is no monetary benefit.  Politicians will fight for the big corporations – those same corporations who are destroying this world and don’t want to invest in innovation, sustainable energy, education, health care and our environment.  Why?  Because there is no money to be paid in those areas.

Think about it – we are in a global financial crisis, we may come out of it for a few years and things may appear to becoming better but in truth – they will only get worse.  Countries are bankrupt – the world is in debt and there is not enough money to get us out of debt.  Seriously.  Unemployment will continue to rise because of our technology – I see it now.  I work for the federal government in Canada.  It was believed that having a government job meant job stability and security – not anymore.  In order to modernize the services we provide – the government continues to automate most of the services they provide.  If/when you lose your job – you don’t have to go sit and wait to apply for benefits in-person, you apply online.  Modernization/Automation or whatever you want to call it, is a reality and will only continue therefore, unemployment will continue to sky-rocket and more and more people will become unemployed.

Let’s look at our dependency on ‘dirty oil’….there is not enough oil in the world to that would support the current lifestyle we are accustomed to – we need to focus on newer technologies and sustainable energy sources like wind and solar.  Our dependency on oil has and continues to wreak havoc on our planet.  If we continue to defile the earth by raping it of its’ natural resources – we will have no earth left.  We have polluted our water, poisoned our soil and made our air toxic – how much more can we and the planet endure?  In polluting the planet, we have limited our availability to our clean/fresh water supply.  The use of pesticides has allowed for our soil to become toxic and if our soil is toxic, that would mean our food is to.

Is there a solution – YES, but we must allow innovators like Jacque Fresco the chance to prove their ideas could work for the greater good of the planet and humanity.  Jacque Fresco’s – is an American self-educated structural designer, architectural designer, concept artist and educator.  Fresco writes and lectures his views of sustainable cities, energy efficiency, natural resource management, cybernated technology, advanced automation, and the role of science in society.  His vision is absolutely remarkable and astounding but critics have labelled him an “eccentric”, a “dreamer”, a “utopian”, an “idealist” and “crackpot” but, what if his ideas work?  What is the harm in trying?  Because right now, our politicians are not even close to finding any solutions for our current economic and environmental issues.

The purpose of my blog is to spread stories of love and positive energy into the world but I feel that without spreading the truth, there can not be any positive outcomes.  We need to know what is happening.  We need to turn off our televisions and stop living in a world where big corporations and greedy politicians dictate what we should be  doing and buying.  We need to stop them from distracting us with their fear tactics and lies and hold them accountable for their actions.  Government and corporations need to listen to us and the way to do that is by not supporting them and not believing their products are a necessity.
