It’s astounding to me how many people are diagnosed with various cancers each day. Is this a modern-day occurrence or has this been happening since the beginning of time? I’m sure that most of us know someone who was diagnosed with some type of cancer, whether it was breast, cervical, ovarian, prostate, lung, throat, liver, stomach, etc. What habits or lifestyle changes could be attributing to cause such a rise in these cancers? We know that smoking can cause lung or throat cancer. We also know that eating meat/processed foods can be a contributor to cancer. How about the polluted air we breathe and the water we drink?
With the epidemic of cancer – comes the advocacy for funding for research, medical equipment, cancer treatments (chemotherapy and radiation), and medicine (including prescription drugs for anxiety and depression). What is happening with all the millions of dollars raised for cancer research, is all that money really being dispersed equally for research, prevention and patient care?
Here are some cancer statistics from WHO (World Health Organization):
There have been over 8.2 million cancer related deaths in 2012.
Most Common Causes of Cancer Death
- lung (1.59 million)
- liver (745,000)
- stomach (723,000)
- colorectal (694,000)
- breast (521,000)
- oesophageal (400,000)
What causes cancer?
Cancer arises from one single cell. The transformation from a normal cell into a tumour cell is multistage process, typically a progression from pre-cancerous lesion to malignant tumours. These changes are the result of the interaction between a person’s genetic factors and three categories of external agents, including:
- physical carcinogens, such as ultraviolet and ionizing radiation
- chemical carcinogens, such as asbestos, components of tobacco smoke, aflatoxin (a food contaminant) and arsenic (a drinking water contaminant) and;
- biological carcinogens, such as infections from certain viruses, bacteria or parasites
Risk Factors
Tobacco use, alcohol use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity are the main cancer risk factors worldwide.

We know what causes cancer and we understand why….SO WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?
Here are a few suggestions:
– eat healthy and mostly raw foods (organic fruits and vegetables)
– maintain an active lifestyle (jog/run for 5 to 10 minutes a day)
People have also had success in healing their cancers without chemotherapy or radiation by simply eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle, here are some examples from ChrisBeatCancer.com:
About Chris Wark:
He was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2003, at 26 years old. He had surgery, but refused chemo. Instead he used nutrition and natural therapies to heal himself. For more information about Chris, recipes, and other helpful tips in treating or healing cancer, please visit his site:

A side note: Keeping a very positive disposition helps with anything in life. Harbouring resentment, anger, and hate promotes cancer growth in our bodies. Keep a positive disposition, surround yourself with positive and like-minded people, meditate and feed your body happiness in order to heal yourself physically and emotionally.
Together, we can make the world a more positive one!
