GOODBYE TO A GREAT POET: MAYA ANGELOU

I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

THIS FILM CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE!!

I had the pleasure of watching a documentary that has reinforced my desire to live a lifestyle that promotes good health, vitality and happiness.  The documentary is called; Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.  The film follows Joe Cross, a successful Australian business man,  and his quest to live a much healthier lifestyle, lose weight and detoxifying his body solely by juicing.  His transformation and success after 60 days is tremendous.  A camera crew follows Joe across the United States for 60 days as he talks with people about the importance of proper nutrition and exercise.  I wasn’t too shocked at some of the reactions Joe received from some of the people he talked to.  I believe that so many American’s are not motivated to become healthier precisely because of what they are eating.  The food that so many American’s eat is addictive, processed, holds no nutritional value and keeps them tired and in a state of haze.

Here is a clip of this amazing and beneficial documentary:

Joe Cross is an inspiration and has created a film that validates that we can all become healthier by ‘rebooting our bodies’ through juicing, and reverse many of the ailments we have caused through neglect and unhealthy food choices.   It is evident that this ‘reboot’ is life-changing and Joe isn’t the only proof – as you will see when you watch the film.

Many of us make excuses not to become healthier – many of the people Joe has talked with during the film, clearly state that they know they are not eating healthy and understand that they are overweight but they lack the motivation to do anything about it.  Many people just don’t care and are misinformed.  Others – just enjoy their addiction to processed foods to want to do anything about it.  Those that do understand the health implications of what their diet is doing to them – blame themselves.  Yes, it is partially their fault as they do choose to eat processed food everyday but I also believe that the food companies should be held accountable for the products they are selling.  Cigarettes have warnings – why is it that processed foods don’t have a warning that their food is addictive and will cause diabetes, obesity, risk of heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and even death?  These corporations don’t care about the health of the consumers – they only care about the bottom line.

We need to become more proactive in our health to ensure have quality of life.  We also need to be informed about our food choices and what affects they will have on our bodies – this should be a mandatory course offered along with physical education.  Imagine a world in which people don’t anser to corporations but a world in which corporations and governments answer to the people.  It’s time to remove the distractions, the haze and our addiction to food so that we can all become better, productive and informed individuals.
