So much is happening in our world that is promoting fear, hate, divide and negative energy. Let’s not get too preoccupied with those negative feelings and help promote positive thoughts/feelings, compassion and LOVE. Right now, nothing really matters but love….so eloquently put into words and music by Madonna….

A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE SONG
WORDS – they can hurt, they can kill, they can make your cry, they can make you laugh but most importantly, they can heal. What people say to you or to others can cause so many conflicting emotions and sometimes not all good emotions. We must really think carefully about the words we choose before we say them.
I have been involved in so many heated discussions about things I am passionate about – animals, the environment and the LGBTQ community. I have used harsh words to express my beliefs and those words may have been misconstrued as anger because of the tone in which I used BUT, the words I used for those such passions are words that I mean.
I am sure that I have used unkind words to express how I feel about others but I practice daily to ensure I don’t use words that my cause undue hardship on others.
Do you think about the words you use on a daily basis to express how you feel about others? Make a conscious effort to really think about what you are about to say about someone or a situation. Are your words going to be positive, nurturing and supportive or are they going to be cruel, judgemental and negative?
Words can cut right through your heart – think about a song you love and think about the experience you associate that song with. Is it heartbreak, pain, suffering? Is it love, a treasured memory – is it uplifting, comforting and empowering? There have been many lyrics written by some of my favourite artists that have made me feel so many emotions – even put tears in my eyes. Is it the way the artist(s) sing the song(s) or could it be the subject matter of the lyrics that made me feel whatever it is I felt when I listen to those specific songs. For me, it depends on the artist.
Take for instance the empowering song called “Fly Again” written by Kristine Weitz and Jessse Houk. The song is a battle cry to rise from the ashes and soar again. It is sung by Kristine W and was from the album of the same name. If you are familiar with the artist, you would know that the story behind the song was Kristine W’s fight with myeloid leukaemia in which she looked death in the face and prevailed. Powerful, right?
Then there is the song “Tonight” written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin from Elton John’s album ‘Blue Moves’. The song is so emotionally charged and so heartfelt the it pierces your soul. The original recording was fantastic. In 1991, George Michael recorded a version for the tribute album to Elton John and Bernie Taupin called, “Two Rooms, Celebrating the Songs of Bernie Taupin & Elton John”. This version was, in my opinion, much more emotional and actually made me cry upon my first listen – I still get a teary-eyed each time I revisit George Micheal’s version.
In 2002, Cher released a single post 9/11 written by Sigurd Rosnes, Johan Aberg and Michelle Lewis entitled, ‘A Different Kind of Love Song’. This song really captured the mood of the world after the events of 9/11 – our moods were sober, bleak and depressing and we needed hope. These writers gave us a silver lining in their words and Cher brought them to life. Here are the lyrics

WHAT I CHOOSE.
There are many things that I choose on a daily basis, here are some examples:
I choose…..
- who I want to become friends with.
- what to read.
- what to eat.
- where to go shop.
- how I do my hair.
- what I wear.
- what to watch on television.
- what music to listen to.
- where to go for dinner.
- what websites to visit.
- when I go for a walk.
- when I go to bed.
- when to relax and unwind.
- when to have a cup of coffee, tea or alcoholic beverage.
- when to be a listener and when to be a talker.
- what religious ideologies to believe.
- to become vegan.
- to practice saving the lives of animals by becoming vegan.
- the place in which I live.
- the job that I do.
- the day I decided to live my authentic life.
The one thing that many people believe that I chose – was my sexuality. THAT IS SOMETHING I DID NOT CHOOSE – that specific ‘thing’ about me, was something I was born with. I didn’t, one day, suddenly decide to choose that I liked people of the same-sex. I don’t believe the writings of any religious denomination and what was written. Therefor – you can’t preach what YOU believe onto me. If you believe there is a God – and you have an issue with my sexuality – blame HIM, not me.
People need to STOP projecting their religious beliefs (or choices) onto others. Nothing good comes from telling others that the way they live their lives and how they were born is wrong. Most importantly – your religious CHOICES should not have any impact on civil rights. There should always be a separation of what you choose to believe religiously and government policies.
When YOU project your beliefs onto your children – it only hinders them and may potentially kill them. Instead encourage your children to explore and to have different viewpoints, thoughts and to be their own individual.
My heart goes out to Tyrone Unsworth, from Brisbane, Australia and so many others who have taken their own lives due to bullying because of their sexuality.

SING YOUR LIFE…..
We all have our favourite songs – songs we can sing along with, songs we dance to, songs we cry to and songs that make us think. Music is relative to what you are going through in your life – songs and music make you feel.
Personally, I like songs with deep meaning and make me really feel. There are few songs that actually put tears in my eyes, here are a few:
Sacrifice by Elton John, You Must Love Me by Madonna, What Doesn’t Belong To You and Back Where You Belong by Sinead O’Connor and Tonight and Mother’s Pride by George Michael.
SING YOUR LIFE by Morrissey is another song that gets me really emotional because for me, the songs meaning is asking me to look at my life, assess what is important and not to listen to the opinions of others and go with what I am feeling not what others tell me to feel or what I think others may feel about me.
I live my life authentically and I definitely SING MY LIFE without any regrets and without worrying about what others may think – are YOU ready to SING YOUR LIFE? Here are the lyrics to the song:

DON’T GIVE IN TO HATE
Allow yourself to disconnect to anything that brings on negative feelings. This is not an easy task considering the events going on in the world and how so much of corporate and social media is catering to fear, relying on ignorance and causing intentional mass confusion.
Remember what is important to you and remember that we are ALL part of the human race. We all want peace and harmony. We want access to clean water and a clean environment. We want the same opportunities. Now, more than ever, we need a revolution of love and that revolution begins with YOU!
Take a moment – BREATHE, rejuvenate yourself and know that with love and positive energy, that revolution of love is right around the corner. We know and understand that the current way is not working for the many and only benefits the few. This will change, it’s happening now. People are becoming more aware and the veil of distraction is slowly lifting. With the truth, comes change and it is up to all of us to ensure that change is born from love.

“Burning Love”
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN STRAIGHT?
How many times have you been asked a question that makes you wonder if the person asking you that question is serious? There are countless times when people have asked me, “When did you realize you were gay?” I am sure that the question is asked in a malicious manner. I also believe that what most people mean to ask is, “When did you begin to live your life authentically?”
The LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community recently celebrated COMING OUT day. There was a time in my life in which I thought ‘coming out’ was important if you were a celebrity, professional athlete and even a politician. I found it gave credibility to the gay community and would allow everyone else to accept us. I no longer feel this way because I feel we are not ‘coming out’ for anyone but those who are uncomfortable with individuals from the LGBTQ community. Straight people don’t ask each other how long they have been straight – being heterosexual is just the regular and normal thing. My ‘straightness’ was a learned behaviour which completely suggests that being homosexual could be a learned behaviour as well, right? Well according to many of my friends that identify as being heterosexual – you can’t just become gay.
For as long as I can remember – I have always been attracted to the same-sex however, all my life, I have been told that I must find someone of the opposite sex, get married and have children. Every where I turned, there were couples of the opposite sex cuddling, making out, getting married, having babies and creating their lives. I turned on the television and it was the same, I opened a magazine and it was more of the same. Everything around me was heterosexual and many of those same heterosexuals where condemning and judging people who identified as homosexual.
I have never been ‘straight’ – I have never identified as heterosexual, that label was forced upon me. My authenticity and my identifying with being a homosexual man was conditioned out of me. I was forced to become straight from society, from family, from my religion and from my friends all because people decided that it wasn’t okay to LOVE.
Don’t oppress, don’t judge – live your life from LOVE and allow people’s differences to shine and to allow them to live the authentic lives they were meant to live.

DON’T LET THE HATE IN!
Today, a human decided that it was his responsibility to be judge, jury and executioner of innocent people enjoying their day. Omar Mir Seddique Mateen killed 50 people today – 50 people who were celebrating joy, happiness, love and life. I am outraged.
I read a Facebook post that included tweets congratulating the shooter for ridding the world of these 50 human beings. Why? Simply because they were born gay. Most of the comments were in support of the shootings because homosexuality is a sin according to religious doctrine and ideologies. I become completely outraged when people use their religion or their God to reinforce their hatred of something. This hate stems from a doctrine that was clearly written by man in order to bend the shape of society so that they are controlled and conformed. This belief that I have about religion doesn’t come from hate or any violence, it is from my life experience that not much good comes from religion.
In my short life on this planet, I have witnessed the horrors of hunger, the genocide of animal species, the never-ending destruction of our planet, religious greed, corporate greed, poverty, slavery and so much more and no God or religion has presented a solution that these atrocities will ever stop. But I have hope.
HOPE is a word filled with never ending possibilities that humans from all backgrounds and lifestyles will come together and create positive and lasting change in the world. As I said, I am outraged that this happened. I am outraged that you can buy a gun from a corporation who feels it is necessary to be protected yet, most of their employees need to supplement their income with food stamps in order not to starve. I am outraged that Americans and so many individuals in LGBTQ communities around the world had to fight for simple civil liberties while governments negotiate war. I am outraged that people continue to die because of someone else’s religious beliefs. I am outraged that we glorify HATE so much more than we promote LOVE. But I am hopeful.
My heart and thoughts are with the families of those who lost their love one’s today. This year, let’s celebrate PRIDE for them! To all my LGBTQ brothers and sisters around the world – HAPPY GAY PRIDE!
